We Built This City - Pop Up Souvenirs
Ladies and gents, we're all well aware that London is one of the most striking and beautiful cities in the world (yes, I know, I know - and expensive), but when tourists or our family and friends come to visit, we don't exactly have the best selection of souvenirs for them to remember us by. Maybe one of those 'My mum went to London and all I got was this lousy t-shirt' t-shirts, or a crappy plastic model of a red phone box. Rubbish. No one really wants that stuff.
Enter We Built This City, the saviour of souvenirs. This wonderful pop up on Carnaby Street is now home to the Capital's very best mementos, brimming with artwork direct from London creatives - WBTC are completely homegrown.
Founder Alice Mayor quoted Time Out saying: ‘We’re excited to be able to offer shoppers a souvenir that finally reflects London’s true creativity. Every souvenir purchased directly supports the very people who we believe make London such a special place to live and visit.’
I popped in for a look around on my lunch break this week and found it incredibly hard not stroll out with armfuls of notebooks, prints and accessories. And with not a red, white and blue souvenir in sight, it's apparent that no other high street souvenir shop could possibly compete with the creativity that oozes from WBTC.
In terms of prices, you get what you pay for and whilst products are not necessarily "cheap", they are reasonable. Prints and illustrations are selling from about £30+ but I reckon that's pretty good value - I have my eye on a couple myself.
So if your looking for something that truly showcases the rising creative talent that London holds, look no further - pop in and treat yourself.
