Lunch at the Black Lion
First of all, let's just get a little bit excited about how warm it was Saturday morning - spring is finally on its way! After conquering a slightly sweaty walk to West Hampstead, to belatedly celebrate our friend's birthday, we were soon lounging in The Black Lion garden, eagerly awaiting food.
I'm not going to try and claim that this pub is the cheapest around for food and drink, but it's perfect for special occasions or a pay day treat. And if you need to keep costs down, simply order off the bar menu - the food is just as good.
My favourite at the moment has to be the grilled chicken skewers with sweet chilli sauce and a side of chips - off the bar menu - and it's not yet failed to fill me up.
There were quite a few of us yesterday and the general consensus was that the halloumi burger and steak sandwiches were also impressive - not to mention a side order of Bloody Mary to help cure a hangover (tasted like cold tomato soup to me, but apparently it was great).
The Black Lion not only does fantastic food, but it also has a superb beer garden which was packed Saturday lunch time. I strongly recommend it once the weather gets warmer, it's a wonderful place to hang out with friends and what's more - dogs are welcome, so be prepared to spend a lot of time "ooohh"ing and "awwww"ing (we did).
Having been there a few times now, The Black Lion is fast becoming one of my favourite pubs and being in such a lovely area as West Hampstead, it's always a treat wandering around the charity shops afterwards looking for some bargains.
