I did a 'bag' thing
I’ve recently felt the need to talk about what it’s like to give in to that annoying voice in the back of your head that repeatedly says “Buy it now!”
I have been followed around by the ‘Buy It Now’ voice for a couple of weeks, ever since I found this beautiful Melissa Winged Handheld Bag, £32 from Accessorize.
I’ve been in need of a new work handbag for months now, as my other ones are either too small, broken or covered in mould (I’ll save that last one for a post some other time), but I swore I would wait until pay day to make it mine.
I found the wait excruciatingly hard; every time I caught a whiff of my old, damp smelling bag, I had to muster every inch of willpower not to throw it out of the office window, sprint through the Oxford Street hoards and hurl my card at the cashier.
Finally, pay day came and as I was about to leave the office, my colleague cheerfully informed me that if I went in the next day, I could get 20% off with the Accessorize loyalty card. “What an absolute bargain”, I hear you cry.
But you know what? I didn’t wait until the next day.
I just couldn’t bring myself to – I had waited so long for the evening when I could stroll into the store guilt-free, that even the thought of holding off for another 24 hours honestly felt too long.
I did wrestle with a few minutes of regret after I walked out towards the tube, new bag in hand. I mean, I’m running a blog on how to save money in the Capital and I can’t even be patient enough to wait one measly day to make a saving? But actually, that’s okay. Everyone falters, everyone has slip ups and splurges a bit when they know they shouldn’t.
The important thing to remember in those times, is that you are only human and we all deserve a little treat every now and again, because if we always live by the rules, we’re never going to have any real fun!
So go on, we’ve all been paid now – I’m giving you permission to get out there and buy that pretty skirt or pair of shoes you’ve had your eye on all month. You deserve it :)
